Yep, you read it right..I'm a self admitted birdaholic. My current obsession is Green Herons:) We've lived here for almost 3 years, and have seen lots of herons at the pond. We have a Great Blue Heron that fishes in the pond several times a week. When I saw smaller bluish green birds at the pond, I just assumed it was Little Blues. But then about a week ago I saw a strange looking bird in one of the cedar trees in the backyard. Of course I ran and grabbed my trusty Birds of North America book to see if I could identify it. I couldn't find it, so I posted its details on one of my bird newsgroups, and someone suggested Green Heron. As it turned out, it IS a green Heron, but it's a juvenile one. Now I'm seeing a Mama (or Daddy) bird flying around with it, and those are what I thought were Little Blue Herons. Turns out they're not Little Blue, but GREEN HERONS! Learn something new everyday, LOL!
So now I can't wait to go out in the evenings and see what the Mama and Baby Green Herons are up to:) I grab my coffee and go out in the late evening, and there they are! They mostly sit in one of the big Pine trees in the front and talk to each other. They fly from tree to tree...I think Mama is giving the baby lessons or something. They are really cool to watch. The Mama flew real low right above my head a few days ago when I was feeding the fish in the pond. Of course, I covered my head, just in case she decided to "let er fly", LOL!
Of course, I am obsessed with other birds as well, but that's another story....
Tata for now!
